UPM BIOCHEMICALS BUSINESS
Michael Duetsch, Vice President, UPM Biochemicals Business, joined UPM in 2011. He has studied chemistry at the universities Hamburg, Göttingen and Paris. In 1994, he started his professional career at Goldschmidt (today: Evonik) in research and development (R&D) followed by management positions in corporate strategy and controlling. He headed R&D as well as new business development departments within Evonik and BASF. Today his main responsibility is to create a new business for biochemicals at UPM. He is based in Leuna, where UPM currently invests into a biorefinery to produce bio-monoethyleneglycol, bio-monopropyleneglycol, renewable functional fillers and industrial sugars.
